REAL WEDDING | ELEGANT NAVY AND GOLD FIESTA IN TEXAS | DONNY TIDMORE PHOTOGRAPHY

Today’s wedding looks like something I would love to attend. From the amazing decor, to the fabulous wedding gown worn by the bride. She looks gorgeous! I can’t stop looking at her, definitely in a non creepy way! But she does look amazing.  I also love that they really wanted their family to be happy and have a great time, that is such a great thing to to take into consideration.  I love it! I know y’all will enjoy it as much as I have.

From the Bride: First off, my husband and I are big fans of your site which we used throughout the planning process. Being from Indiana and Texas, but living in Virginia, the most difficult decision during planning was deciding on a location. Getting married was first brought up during a visit to the Riverwalk and since we plan to relocate there, we settled on my husband’s hometown of San Antonio. We wanted the day to be an elegant, timeless (and fun!) fiesta focused on family. My husband’s grandfather officiated the ceremony and our sons walked down the aisle with my sister-in-law and best friend. Afterward, my mother walked me down the aisle to My Girl by the Temptations. We wanted to include a nod to The Office, which my husband introduced me to when we started dating. So we played The Office theme song during our first kiss. Rather than having traditional photos, we found a photographer, Donny Tidmore, whose style matched our personality. I knew he was perfect for us when we saw the non-wedding photos featured on his website. His work is really unique and was exactly what we wanted. Our elegant fiesta theme came through in many of our decor choices. We decided on a mostly white palette with touches of navy and gold to honor my husband’s Navy career. We centered the decor around our white papel picado flags from Mexico and lots and lots of candles. Our venue, the Courtyard by Marriott Riverwalk, draped the rooms in white and their patio on the Riverwalk was perfect for our cocktail hour and dancing under the stars. We did some Diy: my husband made the stands that held our Spurs shaped donuts, and my mother made our mirrored menu board. My husband also surprised me with our custom cake topper from Etsy, he knew how much I love Harry Potter, and he made the doe to go with it. I’m not diy inclined, but I designed the invitations and signage on zazzle.com. Our wedding was wonderful; the dance floor was full and our families are still telling us how much fun they had. We kept it simple and focused on making every aspect personal to us. I wouldn’t change a thing.

How did the two of you meet? We met online on Plenty of Fish. Neither of us were looking for a long term relationship, but by the third date we both knew it was something special. Describe your engagement: We had gone ring shopping a few weeks beforehand, so I knew it was coming just not when. He got down on one knee at Busch Gardens and asked me to be his wife after an exciting roller coaster ride. Personal or handmade details: We included so many personal details. My mom walked me down the aisle to My Girl by the Temptations, a song she always sang to me as a child. My husband’s grandfather married us and our sons walked down the aisle. We played the theme song from The Office during our first kiss because my husband introduced me to it when we started dating. I also danced with our sons instead of a traditional father-daughter dance. My husband is more DIY inclined than I am; he made the stands that held our Spurs doughnuts and our card holder. My mother made our mirrored menu board. My husband also surprised me with our custom cake topper from Etsy and he made the doe to go with it. I created the invitations and signage using a template on zazzle.com. Describe your wedding flowers: We scaled back on flowers to keep our budget in check and focused on candles and succulents. We featured them on the tables and also included bud vases filled with bright pink roses. The altar arrangements and bouquets included succulents, protea, roses and eucalyptus. Memories and Stories about the Day: My favorite moment had to be meeting my husband’s eyes as I walked down the aisle and seeing his reaction to seeing me! I also loved being able to get ready with my mom and bridesmaids. Spending time with them before the ceremony helped calm my nerves and was the perfect start to the day. Our day was wonderful, but not without a few hiccups. I decided to pick up the flowers myself since it was on the way, ha! Of course, they all fell over in the car! We also had a miscommunication with our transportation to the ceremony and my wonderful maid of honor and photographer ended up calling an Uber. But, we laughed about those things and they only made the day more memorable. Your first dance song: Everything I Do by Bryan Adams. We went through so many choices and couldn’t agree on anything. This was one of the few songs we both loved and could compromise on. The thing that we would have done differently is? I would have asked for a mock up from our florist. Our flowers weren’t exactly what I had envisioned, but were beautiful nonetheless. Because we lived so far away from our venue and vendors we weren’t able to have in person meetings with some of the people we worked with. Our favorite detail of the wedding was: My favorite detail was our Mariachi band that my husband surprised me with; we didn’t think we’d be able to fit a band in the budget. He told me about them a few days before the wedding. His favorite details were dinner and doughnuts. The catering team really worked with us to customize our menu and the service was on point. We had Spurs Doughnuts as favors instead of a groom’s cake. The bakery that supplied our cake makes them annually during NBA finals and they agreed to do them as a special order for us. Your advice for other plus size brides: I would encourage brides to stay true to themselves and tune out the noise. I wanted to look like myself for our wedding. I decided against wearing much jewelry, and chose a dress I felt like I would wear anywhere if it were a different color. And, don’t believe people who say “all brides lose weight before the wedding.” I gained about 15 pounds during wedding planning. Food is delicious and celebrating is fun! I still felt beautiful on our big day! Don’t stress about the small things. If you’re having fun, your guests will too. Three adjectives that describe the day: Personal, elegant and fun. What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage? The biggest surprise came about 4 weeks after the wedding; we found out that we’re expecting our first child together! We’re still adjusting to combining our finances and households since we didn’t live together until we were engaged.
