Handmade Citrus Themed Wedding

You are in for a treat today with this sunny and fun citrus themed wedding captured by Peterson Design & Photography. I just love all the bright colors and the bride and groom’s infectious smiles! There are some really sweet DIY and heirloom details (like ribbon from the groom’s hospital outfit wrapping the bride’s bouquet!) that you all will fall for. But most of all, this wedding just looks like tons of fun and has that effortlessly chic and relaxed vibe that comes from a happy, in love couple.

We met and got engaged at Pomona College, so we couldn’t imagine a better place to get married than at the beautiful alumni house! Claremont (the surrounding town) was originally a citrus-growing community, so we chose a sunny SoCal citrus theme.

My mom made a beautiful wrapper for my bouquet using lace from her own wedding dress and my grandma’s wedding dress. The ribbon on it was my “something blue” and came from the hat Nick wore home from the hospital after he was born. I wore my grandma’s bracelet, and my wedding ring is a family heirloom. We also put out our parents’ and grandparents’ wedding photos on a vintage hutch.

Our first priority was to have a meaningful ceremony, and we were honored to have it officiated by a Pomona professor who had advised both of us during our time in school. He did an incredible job – there wasn’t a dry eye by the end! Our second priority was to have a fun and laid-back reception, where friends and family could just relax and have a good time. We chose to have the reception at lunchtime, and put out lawn games and a photo booth, which were very popular!

My amazing family DIY-ed all of the decorations! For our citrus crate centerpieces, my dad stained the boxes and my sister designed the labels. The day before the wedding, we filled them with flowers from Trader Joe’s. My family also made all of the signs and programs, and we had fun making our own guestbook using Shutterfly.

We loved having the wedding during the day, while it was bright and sunny. We loved hearing our friends and family give some really moving toasts, and we loved taking a moment to watch everyone laughing and playing lawn games. More than anything, though, we loved finally being married!
