Let’s take a trip to New York City for a Prospect Park wedding, shall we? Megan and Colin love living in their neighborhood in Brooklyn, but when they started looking for a venue and quickly realized Megan’s dream of hosting their friends and family in a barn might be too difficult to do in the city, they switched their focus to the Prospect Park Picnic House. The venue fit Megan and Colin’s vision beautifully, enabling them to have an outdoor ceremony and an indoor reception in a cozy space accented with natural elements. You’ll have to keep reading below to learn more about this couple’s inspiration and planning process, and we already know you’ll enjoy seeing the photos captured by Cassi Claire Photography!
What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?
My husband and I did most of the planning ourselves. My mom and stepmom were also very instrumental in making our big day so special. On the day of our actual wedding, our caterer was the one who kept everyone on schedule and happy. Her day of planning was built in to the catering contract.
What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?
We chose people who were kind and easy to work with. We also looked for vendors with reasonable rates.
What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?
We wanted our wedding to compliment Prospect Park, our venue, which is one of our favorite places in Brooklyn. The park in the fall is beautiful, so we didn’t want to do any decorating that took away from that natural, rustic beauty feel. We chose earth tones for our linens and accents and our florist created really beautiful pieces with a subdued palette to match the seasonal colors. We also wanted our wedding to feel warm and cozy, so dinner was served family style.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
We absolutely loved having all of our family and dearest friends together in one place.
What is your best piece of advice for other brides?
Make choices that make you happy, and accept help from people when they offer it! If someone wants to call and make manicure appointments for you and your ladies–let them do it!
Although the details and colors are completely on point, it’s the six year old girls who helped to calm Megan’s nerves just before walked down the aisle that I love the most. They called over to her and said, “Bye, bride!!! Have a good wedding!! Have a good marriage!!” My heart just melts.
