How did you meet?

We met on a dating app. Donita almost passed me by because her dog and I have the same name. Thank goodness she didn’t.

What is your proposal story?

We lived together and wanted to have friends over for NYE. D and I spent the day getting things ready for the festivities. I started to get ready, and D asked me to check on the decorations outside. She created a trail with flower petals and candles that lead out to our backyard. Stepping out into the yard I could see the ring lit up and “ Marry Me “ by Train playing on the speaker. D asked me to marry her and I ecstatically agreed.

Tell us about your wedding vision.

We knew we wanted a smaller wedding and with a limited budget, the only big thing that mattered to us is that we ( at the end of the day) are marred. We looked online at venues and came upon 1812 Hitching Post. It’s a beautiful historic home on a gorgeous piece of property. Also, they had inclusive packages, so it was an easy choice. Aesthetically, I love all things boho. Autumn colors are so stunning on their own, so we wanted to use nature and give it colors to help stand out. Navy and Burgundy look so well together that we went with them for the decor and attire.

Tell us about your attire choices.

I wanted a dress that I felt amazing in. I thought I wanted a mermaid boho gown. Little did I know that a perfect boho princess dress was what I would end up in. I did not want to take the dress off! For Donita, we wanted a really cool coat. We just happened to find it one day looking around Belk. For the wedding party, affordable was key. Amazon came through and we got great dresses and jackets for way less than if we went to a bridal store.

What was your biggest splurge?

The most important thing for us was to just be married. I did splurge on my dress, but not by a huge amount.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

Looking at D from an upstairs window while she was waiting for me to walk down the aisle, and just being around family and friends, who celebrate our life together.

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

The flower are wooden. They are from an Etsy shop and now live in a vase in our bedroom. I one hundred percent love that I didn’t buy flowers just to have them die.

What did you do for favors?

We didn’t feel the need for favors. Our money could be spent on other things.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

The wedding cake was included in our package for the venue. We got to pick the flavor and the outer look. We also got married so close to Halloween, so we had a haunted house as a cake topper.

Do you have any advice for couples who are planning their wedding now?

Your friends and family just want to celebrate the both of you. You do not have to put on an expensive show for them. Do what YOU want.
