A Bryant Park Elopement

A beautifully fun and intimate day for this couple, not just your average afternoon but a day to feel fancy and walk the streets like celebs and BE MARRIED!

from the photographer: Refia and Gokhan eloped on a Thursday afternoon at New York’s City Hall. I met them at Bryant Park immediately following their elopement to shoot them as they revisited locations of significance. We started at the New York Public Library, where they had one of their first dates, and made our way down 5th Avenue to Paley Park where he proposed almost one year after they met. We took photos at St. Patricks Cathedral and in the streets of the City along our way. Refia and Gokhan wanted a timeless, documentary-style shoot for their wedding day and opted to have half of their photos shot on black and white film and half on color film.

How did you meet?

A mutual friend of ours thought about setting us up while we were contributing to the same non profit organization event. She invited both of us to her home for dinner. We had a great time at dinner and decided to go on dates.

What’s your proposal story?

Gokhan took me back to the Italian restaurant we went to for our first date saying he wanted to have a nostalgic night. We had dinner and had great conversations. On our way back, I thought we would go back to the car since it was raining but he suggested we take a stroll under the rain and guided me to Paley Park. We’ve discovered the park and had coffee before while chatting and walking around the city. He told me that this was the exact place where he knew I was the one and proposed to me there under the rain.

Favorite part of this day?

Getting our photos taken by Parker, who had such a great energy, in the city we love the most.
Also having a very intimate reception dinner with only our closest ones at Zeugma in Montclair, NJ. Chef Cem created a perfect reception menu for us.
