If you love the idea of flower crowns but would like to try something a little different this Spring, why not put together this gold foliage floral crown yourself? You don’t need too much equipment, and can go foraging for your greenery and flowers. Such a fun idea for a gift (extra points because it’s handmade!), or to make as a bridal party all together. You can make a full and “showstopping” crown, or a neat and simple one – the options are limitless! Have fun creating something a little unusual – this beautiful DIY is sure to impress.

What you’ll need:

  • Chosen foliage and flowers (choose woody stems, as these will last much longer)
  • Floral scissors
  • Floral tape
  • Wire
  • Gold spray paint
  • Drop sheet or paper

What to do:

Step 1. After you’ve foraged about for some lovely greenery and blooms, cut them into smaller pieces and lay them out on your drop sheet. Depending on the thickness of your floral crown and the amount you’re making, you can do this in batches to keep the foliage as fresh as possible.

Step 2. Following the instructions on the spray paint can,and making sure you’re in a well ventilated area, spray your chosen foliage. I like mine not entirely ‘solid’ gold, but play around and see what effect you like the best. Remember, you can always add some non-sprayed leaves to your crown too.

Step 3. Measure your head (or take measurements from the person you’re making this for) and shape the wire to that size. Twist the wire to hold it together, and then use the tape to secure it. Tape the entire ring. If you’ve not used florist tape before, remember to stretch a little as you’re winding it, and take your time with a few practice goes.

Step 4. Once your sprayed foliage is dry, bring it inside and play around with the different sizes and shapes. Starting with the bigger pieces, and using small pieces of tape, begin to secure each piece to the wire.

Step 5. Continue adding pieces in until you’re happy with how it looks. Keep a mirror nearby so that you can check it looks as good on as it does on the table! If you’re unhappy with a particular piece of foliage, simply pull it out and start again. Working with foliage means you don’t need to worry too much about being delicate, plus your crown will last much longer!

There are so many variations you can play around with for this crown. You can use one type of foliage, you can spray it entirely gold (or whichever colour you desire!), you can keep it quite neat and simple or make it wild and full, and you don’t have to carry the foliage all the way around either. Let your imagination run wild and create something absolutely stunning!
