It’s not every day that a gorgeous Oklahoma wedding that takes place at a historic hotel lands in my inbox, so I’m thrilled to feature Sarah and Sam’s celebration with you today! Sarah had always dreamed of getting married in her childhood church and hosting her reception minutes away. However, when she and Sam decided to tie the knot in his Oklahoma hometown, Sarah happily altered her vision to incorporate the historic and stunning Skirvin Hilton Hotel. With help from her vendor team and friends local to the area, the couple succeeded in planning a beautiful day while living in California. Their wedding honors Sarah’s classic and chic style dreams while also incorporating Sam’s southern roots. From the cake and blooms to the bride’s gorgeous dress (seriously!) and the groom’s polka dot bowtie, there’s so much to love about Sarah and Sam’s soiree captured by Kristen Edwards Photography!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

I planned the majority of the wedding.  The Skirvin Hotel has a wonderful day of coordinator, Nikki Lunkenheimer, who was a huge help day of and dealing with the hotel plans.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I planned my wedding long distance from California for most of the planning, so I had to take recommendations from friends for a lot of it.  So communication with vendors was very important.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I have always wanted just a classic wedding, not too many over the top frills, just a nice romantic feeling.  Since a young age, I had dreamed of having my wedding in my local church and the old hotel down the street, once we decided to get married in Oklahoma City, I found my version of that.  So I basically followed my gut when planning the day.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

I loved having all my family and friends in one place, and seeing everyone have such a wonderful time.  To this day, 8 months later, people are still telling me its the best wedding they have ever been to!  But other than that, I absolutely LOVED my cake, it was gorgeous!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

The one thing that helped the most, definitely staying organized from day one.  And staying on top of the timing, no matter what though, it will get hectic the last 3 weeks! Oh, and have fun with it, at the end of the day the important thing is you and your husband are married :)

I love how Sarah and Sam kept everything simple, classic, and beautiful! Are you planning on going with a similar look for your own wedding?
