How did you meet?
We met in Lisbon, Portugal through Tinder. Neither of us had ever been on a Tinder date before.
When Julia had the chance to finish her PhD degree in San Francisco she didn’t think twice Tiago decided to follow her. After being so far away from our families and still feeling so happy, we wanted to get married and start our lives as husband and wife. In a month we got clothing at thrift shops, bought flowers, hired a photographer to get images back to send to our families.
What is your proposal story?
We went on a bike tour to San Francisco on one of the first spring days. Eventually, we arrived at one of the docks with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Tiago asked a couple standing nearby to take a picture of us. We first took a normal shot in front of the bridge before he went down on one knee for the “main” picture and the proposal.
Tell us about your attire choices.
We wanted to have simple outfits that also fit in with the San Francisco City Hall but most importantly that have some personal touch to them and reflect our personalities. We chose a hat for Tiago and the natural bouquet together with some very personal jewelry for me. We found our outfits at thrift shops!
What were your favorite parts of the day?
As we got married without any family due to the large travel distance for them we called our families on our way to the city hall. Those phone calls before our wedding ceremony were very special as well as deciding to take BART (the local underground train) to the city hall, and finally meeting our adopted family for a burger menu at In’n’Out afterwards. Our day felt incredibly personal and we enjoyed every second. We decided to spend the night in an airbnb close by to able to reflect on the day and our ceremony.
Tell us about your wedding cake.
We had a small vanilla frosted and chocolate covered cake to share at In’n’Out.
