Cozy winter wedding at the Mountain Top Inn in Vermont

The snowy Mountain Top Inn in Vermont provided the perfect location for Emily of Tipsy Tulip Designs to bring together the snowy winter wedding vision for Lindsey and Jacob. The couple had spent much time during their relationship at the inn snowmobiling. So, they felt this was the place that represented them as a couple, a beautiful place to celebrate their union.

The couple decided to splurge a little on the florals and chose cedar greenery and winter greenery (cedar with a hint of eucalyptus) to complement the cozy winter setting. Lindsey personally wanted some winter flowers that were cozy and inviting not anything too Christmasy. The carefully crafted choice to include a pop of red from the hypericum berries was a perfect touch of color.

The wedding dress the bride chose was the ultimate balance between comfortable and elegant. The V- back provided the opportunity to show off some skin while the sleeves kept her warm outside. The dress was paired with a backdrop pearl necklace from Gosia Myer Jewelry and don’t forget those cowboy boots for extra comfort!

Like most couples, Lindsey and Jacob had envisioned their ideal weather scenario for their special day – snow. Instead, they were met with rain. Concerned about the outside ceremony the couple decided to brave the elements, and 30 minutes before, the skies parted to reveal light shining over the mountains as if Mother Nature was celebrating their nuptials with them.

How did you meet?

My husband and I met in our late teens, early 20’s (yes, I am the cougar in the relationship) at a bonfire in our now hometown. We had multiple mutual friends but never actually met one another. I remember thinking, “that is the most handsome man I have ever seen” (I know, corny, but true. Still true!). We got chatting and realized the multiple mutual hobbies and passions we had in life, from snowmobiling, four wheeling, hiking, and pretty much all other outdoor adventures.

8 years later, I guess you could say we have been inseparable ever since! <3 What is your proposal story? My husband and I are avid snowmobilers so it was just natural that he purposed on a snow mobiling trip among the mountains of Vermont. It was a beautiful bluebird sky day filled with tons of fun and love. We were accompanied by my husband’s brother, his girlfriend, and a few other friends. It was truly a day to remember.

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding (your vision, color, style, and location choices).

My husband and I always talked about having a snowy winter wedding. March 13, 2020 was no snowy day in Vermont. The rain started in the morning and proceeded throughout the day. I remember getting ready for the ceremony and looking outside into the pouring rain. Our wedding planner approached me and asked, “what will it be, are we doing this inside or outside?”. I messaged my husband and asked what he wanted to do.

His response was “I’d marry you outside in a hurricane” (yes, my heart did melt-like common, that is the cutest response ever!). We thought our dream of getting married outside on a sunny, winter day in the mountains had vanished, but that did not matter. We were still determined to get married outside, rain or shine. It was 30 minutes before our ceremony and there was a beam of light over the mountains. The sky cleared and we had a beautiful rest of the day! It was meant to be.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning?

The most important part of planning for us was to just bring our families together and have a beautiful, relaxing, and fun day to celebrate our love.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Give yourselves time. This will be one of the most fun and best days of your life. Try not to rush the process and make a decision you may later regret. Once the big day comes, make a point to take a minute or two throughout the day to take it all in. Look around. Everyone around you is there to celebrate the two of you. Look at the setting and remember how you feel in that very moment. I promise the few moments you take; will be the memories you remember most and will cherish forever.

Why a Mountain Wedding? What’s your biggest piece of advice for other couples planning a mountain wedding?

We choose to have a mountain wedding in Vermont because we couldn’t think of a more beautiful venue to represent us as a couple. The mountain top inn really sealed the deal with the lodge feel and of course the beautiful mountains surrounding it. Give yourselves time. This will be one of the most fun and best days of your life. Make sure to take a day or two and visit your venue or ceremony location at different times of the day and see if you like certain angles or views better.
