What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

We really did everything DIY so it was all personal.

We dyed cheesecloths to use as table runners to give texture and movement. We also arranged the florals ourselves as well as the stationery, and all the decorations.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

Since we DIY’d everything, we cut down costs a lot. We ordered flowers in bulk and arranged all the bouquets, boutonnieres, and arrangements. We made our own decorations, I handmade all of our invitations and favors… everything was made ourselves so we didn’t have to pay for the “labor” of other people doing it for us.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

Don’t take on so much yourself! We thought we would save a ton of money and it would be easy, but that wasn’t exactly the case! We may have saved, but the stresses of taking on EVERYTHING ourselves wasn’t worth the savings. If I could go back I would hire someone to take on some of the tasks, just to take some of the stress off our shoulders.

What was your biggest splurge?

I’d say the biggest cost we had was the photographer. We wanted to make sure that we captured our day as beautifully as possible, which was worth the cost.

What was your favorite detail?

I think my favorite detail of our wedding was the decor and florals. I think everything just looked organic and beautiful. We had so much fun!

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

I think the most memorable moment was the ceremony. You’re standing there in front of everyone you care about, yet it really feels like its just the two of you. There’s just so much love that it’s palpable.
