Elegant Lake Tahoe Wedding

Here at Mountainside Bride, we’re quite familiar with the brilliance of Lake Tahoe and the spectacular weddings we’ve seen from there that have captured our hearts. Conversely, we’re also very aware of the hectic weather fall weddings in the area can endure. Autumn is a beautiful time to get hitched in Lake Tahoe, but it can also be so tricky with the onslaught of storms raging away without any warning. Caitlin and Andrew had their hearts set on Lake Tahoe in September, and they got their wedding wishes fulfilled. Photographed by Epik Weddings and Events, their light blue and lavender color palette was a bright and lovely complement to the changing colors in the area, and their overall neutral and muted style gave way to an elegant touch to the outdoors.

How did you meet?

We met in college at Elon University in North Carolina. Caitlin asked Andrew to her sorority formal sophomore year and they have been together ever since. After college, they moved to San Francisco together.

What is your proposal story?

Andrew planned a surprise proposal on a hike north of San Francisco at Cavallo Point in Sausalito. He popped the question at a lookout of the Golden Gate Bridge. He also had arranged an engagement party/picnic with family and friends immediately after at the Cavallo Point Lodge. It was so fun to celebrate with loved ones right after such a surprising and happy moment.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

We decided as long as people had fun, we would feel like it was a successful event! A good DJ is a big part of that and Erik (Epik) killed it! Good & plentiful food and drink was also a huge priority for us. We had passed apps at the cocktail hour, a sit down dinner, a dessert bar, and then a “Late Night” snack buffet. We didn’t fuss much with smaller items like custom place settings, menus, programs, etc.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

We both loved the prep time with our boys/girls teams getting ready for the ceremony. It’s a fun bonding time to have with everyone.

The ceremony was extremely special although we cant say either of us remember a lot from the intensity of the moment (thankful for our video!)

We loved dancing the night away with friends and family and seeing all our worlds ‘collide’ for our very special weekend. We had a “Welcome Party” at the Truckee River winery the night before and were able to see and talk to most all our guests which took some pressure off the big day.

What’s your biggest piece of advice for other couples planning a mountain wedding?

We love the mountains so much. They are our favorite summer or winter getaway and we feel very lucky to live so close to the beautiful Sierras. We would say just capitalize on the natural beauty you have. It made our “decorating” work so much easier when the backdrop was already gorgeous.
