Kristen and Alex’s garden inspired wedding in Virginia is full of beauty and so much love. Their story is one of true fate- they met on a street corner in DC while waiting for their Uber rides. Talk about being meant to be! Their love and happiness can be seen all through their wedding day, and Lieb Photographic captured it beautifully! Kristen is joining us today to share more insight into the planning of their day- and how they met too!

How did you meet?

I was waiting for my cab with a few friends on the corner of U and 14th Streets in downtown Washington, DC. Alex walked by and couldn’t help but introduce himself to me. We chatted briefly until my cab arrived and had to leave with my friends, leaving Alex my number. Little did we know we had both just literally ran into our soulmate on the street that night!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My husband, Alex, was amazingly helpful. I broke my jaw a month before the wedding and he dropped everything to take care of me and did everything he could to help finish up tasks leading up to the big day so I could recover. My maid of honor and bridesmaids kept me so happy and calm throughout the wedding weekend. They also threw me a fantastic bridal shower and bachelorette party where I literally had to do nothing except show up. I’ve never had anything like that done for me before – it was such a heartwarming feeling. They are the sweetest most irreplaceable girls. Our photographer, Michelle Lieb, was also wonderful throughout the planning process. She provided loads of helpful hints and tips starting literally from the day I got engaged. She was very genuinely involved in helping with the day-of timeline and offered insightful suggestions from her vast experience that I would’ve never thought of.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

Good food, good drinks, and good music were most important to us. We tried to keep in mind that it’s just a fancy party and guests just want to have a good time. Splurged: The band and vintage lounge furniture/decor Skipped: Full-service planner and photo booth

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding.

I envisioned a lakeside secret garden inspired wedding, I wanted to take guests to a magical place they never knew existed so close to DC. I guess the best way to describe the style was “botanical elegance” with ornate detailing and gold accents. Silver dollar eucalyptus greenery galore, large blooms of neutral peaches and dusty blushes, with an occasional pop of a dark red floral and long blush ribbons to add warmth and romance.

For escort cards, I had geodes made with each guests’ full name written in gold professional calligraphy that they could take home as a keepsake. I made our guest photobook and provided a polaroid camera for guests to take selfies, stick it in the book, and write a fun note to us instead of doing a photo booth. We still love looking through it!

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Prioritize and make cuts. Get rid of some less-important things so you can really focus on/invest in what’s most important to you as a couple. Your planner/coordinator and photographer are key decisions – choose wisely. The extra fee for the highly rated ones will save you so much time and stress. Your venue/caterer will drive the majority of your wedding cost – if you’re on a budget be sure to choose an affordable venue so you can still pick fabulous vendors and DETAILS!
