Kate Spade Inspired Styled Shoot

What was your design inspiration?

I have always loved Kate Spade’s style. Timeless, elegant, chic. I have wanted to put together a styled photo shoot with some of her signature colors for a while now. I try to put a unique spin on all of my themes when I am designing for a photo shoot or my clients. This time, I added a black and white checked pattern to the mix. It added a quaint country touch to a sophisticated style, and made it absolutely adorable!

Describe your flowers.

The flowers were a mixture of fresh and silk blooms. The cake had two small cascades of fresh fuschia tea roses, raspberry mini carnations, and hypericum berries. The silk arrangements on the cake table included silk blush peonies and roses in vintage glass bottles. The silk floral centerpiece on the dining table featured large white magnolias, fuschia dahlias, blush peonies, and white jasmine blossoms. The gorgeous bridal bouquet and boutonniere were created by Linda Silvestri, of Fleur Wedding Bouquets. They featured colorful silk flowers, pink pearls, and black and white checkered ribbon to match our theme.

Describe your cake.

The delicate, single-tier cake was a homemade vanilla bean cake, frosted in vanilla buttercream, and covered in two small cascades of fresh flowers.

Tell us about your attire choices.

I wanted to keep the bridal look for our model, Sammy, very sweet and simply elegant. She wore an understated brilliant white gown, with an embroidered bodice, and organza floor length skirt. We added extra fullness with an additional crinoline. The black and white checkered blouse, tied over the top of the gown, added a relaxed sophistication to the overall look. We had two different pairs of shoes, one being a sparkly gold heel, and the other being an adorable pair of hot pink and white polka dot pumps.

Please describe any handmade, DIY, or personal items.

The colorful paper pinwheels that were hanging above the cake table were created by Melissa Walker. The black and white pinwheels were made of printed sheet music, and the hot pink ones had printed centers that read “pop, fizz, clink”. Very whimsical and playful.

Describe the tablescape elements.

The dining table was draped in a hot pink linen, with a striking black and white striped table runner. The centerpiece was created with three gold and glass open lanterns of varying sizes and large pillar candles. Surrounding the lanterns there were silk magnolias, dahlias, peonies, and jasmine blooms. The table settings consisted of square plates and bowls with a simple black design and black napkins. We added two Kate Spade embroidered dinner napkins at the place settings of the newlyweds. The antique silverware and glassware are part of the Spring Hill Historic Home estate collection, as are the chairs at the dining table.

The cake table, which we placed on the front porch of the Spring Hill home, was covered in a bright white linen and topped with a large black and white checkered tablecloth. We added the small homemade wedding cake on a glass pedestal plate, and cake knife set, tied with black and white polka dot bows. Also placed on the table were fuschia napkins, gold-rimmed champagne flutes, and soft silk florals. The small, antique dessert plates and silverware are part of the Spring Hill Historic Home estate collection.
