Romantic Handmade Museum Wedding

Would you stay up late the night before your wedding making your cake? Today’s bride wanted a cake hand-frosted with love and got her wish with their Florida museum wedding captured by The Ganeys. She also made her invitations and veil, making this hand crafted wedding even sweeter!

We both love art and colors, so we decided a colorful reception at an art museum in my hometown would be perfect. We wanted to be married before God in a church, and chose one that was both lovely and had an organ. (What can I say, I’m very traditional!) The colors were inspired by spring florals.

I was incredibly open to dress styles and just tried on a variety until I found one that I liked. I hand-sewed my own veil since I wanted to have a cathedral length and choose my own lace. The girls wore sage green dresses to go with the organic/floral theme.

Our ceremony was our favorite part. My German family surprised us with a song in German to the tune of Danny Boy; I don’t think there was a dry eye. We also washed each others feet as a symbol of our servant-love for each other.

If I could have spent my entire wedding budget on flowers, I would have! I requested lots of pinks, whites, and greens with an organic garden feel. 2Birds did a phenomenal job. The centerpieces were all in old/recycled silver containers so that guests could enjoy them throughout the week. I made the cake, my veil, the invitations, and the bridesmaid’s robes. Those were definitely a labor of love, but made for a great, personalized gift.

I was stubborn and refused to let anyone else make our wedding cake but me. Of course, at 11pm the night before our wedding (and after showering from the beach) I was frosting a cake made with love. I’d stop to practice a little foxtrot with my dad, and then get back at it. Although it didn’t look spectacular(hey, nothing a few flowers can’t fix), it was the most delicious lemon/raspberry cake I’ve ever had (if I do say so myself).
