Sarah & Morten’s wedding in the Keys was romantic, beautiful, and full of details that reflected them perfectly. Combining Sarah’s southern roots with Morten’s Norwegian heritage and their mutual love for travel, Just Save The Date Events and Juli Vaughn Events created a wedding filled with personal details, lush and organic designs, and oh-so-much love. I cannot wait for you to see all that was captured in the photography by Once Like a Spark and cinematography by Cineaverde!
What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?
In the planning process, i relied heavily on the checklist through WeddingWire.com, also on my wedding planner (Kelly from Just Save the Date). On the wedding day, it was the planner all the way! She did EVERYTHING! I don’t know what we would have done without her!
What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?
We wanted to work with someone who was going to keep us on track, but also who was laid back about it. She made us feel comfortable, but it never felt like it was too much to handle.
What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?
We got married at a resort at the beach. Everyone automatically assumes that if you are getting married near the beach that all the decor will be sandollars and seashells. That was actually opposite of what we wanted! We transformed the resort in to an intimate, romantic venue with more of a garden feel than a beach feel. Lots of natural colors, beautiful florals, lots of wooden accents and greenery.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
Our favorite thing was having a week long wedding. Being an international couple, it was important for us to have all of our loved ones together and getting to know each other before the wedding. Then on the wedding day, everyone had already spent a few days together and really let loose!
What is your best piece of advice for other brides?
Get an amazing wedding planner, it’s worth it! Don’t feel like you have to have all the traditional wedding elements. We didn’t have a wedding cake because we really don’t even like cake, we didn’t do the garter or bouquet toss, no speeches at the actual wedding. We just did what we wanted to and it was perfect.
I absolutely LOVE how Cineaverde captured Sarah and Morten’s day on film- love, happiness, fun… it’s all there!
Sarah + Morten | Wedding Day Video | Caribbean Resort Florida Keys from Cineaverde
Sarah & Morten were married in October at the Caribbean Resort in Islamorada, Florida. Combining her southern roots and his Norwegian heritage, this wedding was one for the books complete with an original song for the Bride from the groom (a surprise), lots of details, organic floral swings and lots of love! The groom, being a true romantic, not only wrote the bride an original song as a surprise, but he also gave her two Louis Vuitton bags, a handwritten scroll, all before whisking her off to a surprise honeymoon, complete with an early morning helicopter ride into the sunrise while family and friends watched. The overall design and decor of the event was a vintage, romantic feel with a ocean twist, complete with floral swings in the tent, vintage mirrors, wine barrel decor, organic floral arrangements with driftwood and mercury glass. It was important to infuse the couple’s long distance relationship and love of travel (they are currently living in the BVIs chartering a sailboat around the islands). Directional signage with all of the places that guests traveled from and a chalkboard globe as a guestbook were some of the touches that reflected this.It was also important to celebrate the bride & groom’s heritage. From the many, many Norwegian traditions that took place (a toast for everyone, including vendors, at the wedding, a homemade, specialty wedding cake made by the groom) t the Photo Booth backdrop and props to the parade of viking and captain’s hats later in the evening to the American & Norwegian flag send off at the end of the night…this wedding did not lack personality!
You know what I think is GREAT? The fact that Sarah and Morten didn’t feel like they had to do the “traditional” wedding reception things. In my experience, sometimes those are the best weddings, because everyone gets to just keep going, enjoying the evening without interruptions! I personally love it!
This awesome couple infused their story into their wedding perfectly… how are you planning on including elements of your own story in your wedding? I’d love to hear!
Vendors who made it all happen…
