Colorful + Romantic Villa Wedding in Santa Barbara

Cat and Monte’s Santa Barbara wedding is a complete dreamland of colorful flowers, California sunshine, and undeniable love. Wedding Kate and Coco Rose Design created a stunning, unique ambiance overflowing with lush tropical florals, a palette of bright pinks and sophisticated pastels, and modern touches that evoke a Mediterranean vibe in the beautiful setting of Villa Verano. The couple rented the villa for their guests for five days, and rather than their wedding being a single evening, it instead became an entire gathering, where family and friends enjoyed time together vacationing and celebrating. This approachable, laidback feeling carried through the entire wedding, from the ceremony, officiated by a friend, where guests were given the book “Think About Someone You Love” by Dallas Clayton, to the reception on the terrace set beneath string lights amongst the rolling California hills. How did you meet?
We lived in two different cities but worked for the same global company, and had never met. Then, when we were in Austin for work, Monte cut-in while I was dancing. We struck up a friendship and ended up going to live music shows for a week straight with a crew of friends that are still some of our besties. (We’re now on our 200th show and counting.) We began working on projects together at work. One time while taking a train from San Francisco, we got so caught up in conversation that we didn’t even notice we 1) got on the wrong train, and 2) that is was empty and not even moving! Soon after, Monte moved to a different company but we kept our friendship going and eventually started dating. We were on planes back and forth between LA and SF pretty much every weekend — or finding new places we had never been to meet at — like Zagreb — where we met to explore the islands around Croatia. The distance couldn’t last. Now I live in LA and we love being in love, we haven’t spent more than a day apart since. We’ve traveled to Spain, Morocco, Croatia, Mexico, France, and all over the US. We can’t wait to explore forever together.

What is your proposal story?
We got engaged in Santa Barbara at San Ysidro ranch. Monte planned an incredible weekend getaway, and I thought it was just a spectacular weekend away. But on Friday night, after having dinner under Loquat trees dressed in sparkly lights, we walked back to the Olive cottage and Monte proposed in the courtyard. The entire place was filled with rose petals and candles. It was amazing and I get teary every time I think of it!

What was the most important to the two of you while planning?
There were a lot of guests from out of town, and we wanted to make it a whole weekend. So, we splurged on the villa and rented it for five days. It was worth it. Family and friends gathered at the beautiful home, went swimming, ate dinner overlooking the ocean. It really felt like we had a mini-vacation with family of all ages.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?
It’s been said a million times, but enjoy it! It all goes by so fast. And don’t be afraid to ask for help and delegate. My friends and family stepped in when needed. Also, my wedding planner, Katie, and photographer, Rhianna, were enormous helps and my whole family loves them dearly now!
