Statue of Duke

A sundrenched tropical haven rich in cuisine, culture and history, Oahu is a heavenly honeymoon choice. This Hawaiian island is the third largest in the archipelago and offers a welcome mix of excitement and relaxation, making it an idyllic place to spend your first few days (or weeks!) as newlyweds.

Here is my selection of quintessential Oahu experiences to add to your island itinerary. Aloha honeymoon!

Waikiki Surfboards

Wander Waikiki

Your honeymoon in Oahu wouldn’t be complete without a visit to famous Waikiki! This lively beachside neighbourhood is home to many luxurious hotels, trendy eateries, stylish shops and of course, the much-loved stretch of sand – Waikiki Beach. This is the perfect place to while away a few hours when you arrive; take a surfing lesson, enjoy a swim or just stroll along the shoreline and soak in those famous views towards Diamond Head.

Go bay hopping

After you’ve experienced Waikiki, it’s time to discover the rest of Oahu’s stunning coastline. Rent some wheels with a GPS (or grab a map if you’re old school) and set off to experience the island’s sublime bays, beaches and coves. Packed your mask and snorkel? Head to Sharks’ Cove, a popular snorkeling spot which is accessible via the rocky shoreline. For a great place to swim and relax, head to Sunset Beach – and try to return later in the day to also catch the sunset.

Embrace nature

An island of beguiling natural beauty, Oahu is definitely a dream destination for nature lovers and keen photographers. For epic views, make a detour during your adventures to the Nuuanu Pali Lookout which boasts breathtaking (and breezy!) vistas of the Koolau cliffs and Windward Coast. On the North Shore, take a wander through the Waimea Valley; a protected area comprising botanic gardens, historical sites and an abundance of wildlife, some of which are extremely rare. While you’re here, cool down at the Waihī Waterfall pool – definitely a refreshing experience!

Stop for snacks

Oahu is renowned for its plentiful food trucks and fruit stalls – and for good reason! During your island adventures, you will undoubtedly come across roadside fruit markets bursting with fresh delights like super sweet pineapples and mangoes. Pull over and pick up some juicy sustenance and a just-hulled coconut – you can taste the aloha! For savoury treats, head to the North Shore, where you will find fish tacos, spicy shrimp, burgers and more.

Experience a luau

You and your love simply cannot leave Oahu without attending a luau! This authentic celebration comprises a Hawaiian banquet and a traditional performance. There are an array of gorgeous luaus to choose from on Oahu, however for a distinctly different option, reserve two spots at the Big Kahuna Luau.

Held on the sprawling Honolulu Ridge Estate, high above Honolulu, the evening unfolds with welcome cocktails, appetisers and pre-show cultural activities, like lei making and coconut weaving in the spectacular tropical gardens – definitely a memorable experience. Guests can wander the lawns and try the activities or simply take in the breathtaking views and watch the sunset.

As evening falls, guests feast on Hawaiian delights like kalua pork, taro and locally caught seafood and embark on incredible journey of Polynesian culture, complete with live music, a fire show and graceful hula dancing! Memorable Oahu honeymoon memories just for the two of you!
