A Vintage Garden Wedding with Relaxed Boho Vibes

KERLYN VAN GELDER PHOTOGRAPHY

Bri & Tim’s romantic wedding takes place in the beautiful grounds of The Cottages on Mill Creek, Texas – a newly-renovated B&B eight miles from Round Top. With 35 acres of ponds, woodlands and open fields it was the perfect spot for their laid back outdoor affair…..

Allowing the venue’s natural beauty to shine, Bri & Tim kept decor simple, and largely DIYable! A palette of white and natural wood was chosen, with a rich layer of color added with lush, just picked florals. Whilst locally sourced treasures adds just the right amount of vintage to this gorgeous garden wedding.

“I could not choose colors. So most textiles were white or grey and lots of natural woods, and I made sure the florals had all the colors! I wanted the florals to stand out the most! I was also going for a vintage/garden style, so I made sure to incorporate a lot of lace and antiques, for local antique stores.”

If you’re planning a boho vintage wedding you will find plenty of inspiration in their lovely celebration…..

“I wanted a vintage look for my dress, so lots of lace, and definitely had to have an open back. My dress was handmade in Bulgaria by a lady name Polina Ivanova. I found her through Etsy after a lot of research and browsing. I didn’t even have to get it altered it was the perfect fit! I accessorized with a white pearl bracelet and vintage style earrings.”

“I honestly don’t know what flowers I had. I only had my bouquet professionally made from a florist and I trusted her to make me what I wanted based on pictures. My bouquet came out amazing of course! As for the rest of the florals we got ourselves at mostly grocery stores nearby and from a couple florist. I just grabbed everything pretty and colourful basically. All the greenery we cut from my parents property and from the venue property, it worked out perfectly!”

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Do as much DIY as you can! You’ll be surprised what you can pull off for a very small fraction of what professionals charge. Save the money for things you absolutely can’t do during the wedding. And less is more! Even looking back at my own wedding there are a lot of things I would have skipped on if I could go back!

What did you do for favors?

We gave away brass vintage skeleton key bottle openers, it fit the vintage theme, and also worked out well because had a lot of craft beer on hand for guest. We also had a sign behind them saying “We gave each other the keys to our hearts, so we give you the key to open a beer.” I came up with that, and I was pretty proud of it.

Describe your cake….

Just like everything else I wanted our cake to be white with colourful flowers. It was a three tier cake and it looked so chic and beautiful. It was definitely hard to cut it up!

Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

“We actually skipped a lot, We didn’t do any of the cheesy traditions like the bouquet toss or the garter toss, we also did our first dance privately which we both enjoyed more anyway, it allowed us to get away for a few minutes. I think the most important this to us was to have beautiful pictures to always remember it by, so we knew we had to find the perfect photographer! And we did!”

And last, but not least, tell us a little about your photographer…..

I found Kerlyn by networking through other people who referred me to her based on the style I was looking for. I fell in love with her style from the minute I saw it! She was great before, during and after the wedding! She was so helpful in so many areas and so knowledgeable about wedding in general. During the wedding she was so peaceful, she knew how to make a moment, find a moment, and then capture it.
